The Maine wind runs over our hills and across our shores.
The wind has always been part of Maine's legacy as a people. We have always harnessed it. After all, it was our early shipbuilders that transformed the nation by harnessing the power of the wind in the puffed sails of early, clipper class frigates.
Today our esteemed ship building institutions have evolved in to world class industry leaders that were originally powered by the wind. Again we are being asked to help transform our state and our nation by this renewable resource – the wind.
Just as these majestic vessels were once staples along our shores and in our ports, wind turbines will be a staple of the landscape in our foothills, along our shores, in our school yards and beside our houses. Just as wind transformed us once before, it will transform us again.
The wind will move us away from our dependence upon oil toward a clean, plentiful renewable energy source.
